IMPLEMENTATION OF GUARANTEED POWER SUPPLY SYSTEMS FOR APARTMENTS AND HOUSES

MultiPlus-II or Quattro series inverter-charger devices by Victron Energy and lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) battery modules by DYNESS are the foundation of our guaranteed power supply system for houses or apartments.

These devices are installed either separately or as part of power supply switchboards, equipped with fuses, and control automation.

Example of implementing a guaranteed power supply system for a country house based on the Quattro inverter-charger device by Victron Energy

General description of the system

Before the installation of the guaranteed electricity supply system, the house was powered by a three-phase input from the general network or a three-phase diesel generator using an automatic transfer switch.

As part of the modernization, a guaranteed power supply switchboard was installed, and the existing switchboard was modernized.

All household loads, including lighting, video surveillance, security alarms, gas and electric boilers, pumping equipment, as well as air conditioners, have been transferred to a guaranteed power supply.

Load switching between the city grid, diesel generator, or installed batteries is fully automated. The diesel generator is also automatically started. Thus, the residents of the house do not feel discomfort during a power outage, and the intelligent automation of starting the generator depending on the expected battery discharge events does not cause inconvenience at night.

The existing upgraded main switchboard is connected to the incoming cables from the mains, diesel generator, and 230V power cables from the hybrid inverters.

Automatic Transferring Switch has become obsolete and has been replaced by bypass switches to switch the power of consumers directly from the grid, generator (service mode), and hybrid inverters (normal mode).

The project envisages the possibility of expanding the system with alternative energy sources, namely solar panels in the future, to achieve greater energy independence and cost savings.

The Guaranteed Power Supply switchboard

Switchboard includes:

  • Three Quattro series (Victron Energy) three-phase inverter-charger devices.
  • Cerbo GX uninterruptible power supply system controller (Victron Energy).
  • 7-inch GX Touch 70 (Victron Energy) for monitoring and configuration options.
  • Three Dyness A48100 battery modules, 48V 100Ah, 4.8 kWh LiFePO4.
  • Fuses to protect each inverter and battery.
  • Board’s climate control system.
  • The home’s guaranteed power supply management system is integrated into the existing AJAX security system, allowing for automatic load disconnection of the house during security mode activation in the absence of continuous power from the grid. The security system also enables remote control of individual consumers and provides instant operational status notifications for the home’s power supply scheme.

Techical solution

The technical solution for uninterrupted guaranteed power supply for the house is based on a system built with hybrid inverters like the Quattro 48/10000/140-100/100 produced by Victron Energy. Three hybrid inverters are combined into a common three-phase system, receiving single phase power from the grid and diesel generator, charging the battery modules, and supplying power to all household loads. In case of a power failure or when the generator is off, the Quattro switches to inverter mode rapidly enough to ensure uninterrupted operation of computers and other electronic devices (acting as an uninterruptible power supply or UPS).

The first stage of the project involves installing three Dyness A48100 battery modules, each with a capacity of 4.8 kWh, resulting in a total battery storage capacity of 14.4 kWh. This can be used to power any household loads for an extended period without grid power, without relying on the diesel power source.

To protect the 48V DC lines from each battery module and inverters, fuses are provided, offering a classical and reliable protection system for these components.

The second stage of the project includes doubling the overall battery capacity. Additionally, the project envisages a rooftop array of solar panels (string) with an expected generation of 6 kW, allowing for further storage and export of surplus energy to the grid.

General System Description

As a result of the modernization, a single-phase grid inverter, two battery modules, a 48V equipment cabinet, and the existing main distribution board of the house were installed and upgraded.

The power supply for all loads in the existing main distribution board was divided into two groups: non-back-up and back-up connections.

The back-up loads group includes lighting, automatic gates, gas boiler, security alarm, video monitoring, and some socket groups in the house.

The non-guaranteed loads group comprises air conditioners and some socket groups in the house.

Switching back-up loads to operate from the grid, diesel generator, or batteries is fully automatic, and the diesel generator is started manually.

The existing main distribution board is connected with input cables from the grid, the generator, and 230V power cables from the hybrid inverter. Additionally, there is a feature to switch the power supply for consumers in the guaranteed loads group directly from the grid (service mode) or from the inverter (normal mode).

The project includes the possibility of expanding the system with solar panels and a wind power station in the future to achieve greater energy independence and cost savings on electricity.

Technical solution

The hybrid inverter receives power from the grid or the generator, charges the battery modules, and supplies power to the guaranteed loads group in the house. In the event of a power failure or generator disconnection, the Multiplus II switches to inverter mode. This transition occurs so quickly that the operation of computers and other electronic devices is not disrupted (acting as an Uninterruptible Power Supply or UPS).

The project involves installing Dyness A48100 battery modules, 48V 100Ah based on LiFePO4, in a total quantity of 2 units, with the possibility of expansion.

Each Dyness A48100 battery module has a capacity of 4.8 kWh, providing a total battery capacity of 9.6 kWh. This can be utilized to power the guaranteed loads group in the house in the absence of grid power.

To protect the 48V DC lines from each battery module and inverters, fuses are provided, installed in a separate 48V cabinet.

An example of the implementation of a system of guaranteed supply of an apartment based on the MultiPlus-II series inverter-charger by Victron Energy

General System Description

Power for all loads in the apartment distribution panel was divided into two groups: guaranteed and non-guaranteed.

The guaranteed loads group includes lighting, intercom, refrigerator, television, and socket groups in the bedroom and children’s rooms.

The non-guaranteed loads group encompasses air conditioners, boiler, and some kitchen sockets.

The existing uninterruptible power supply source for the boiler, along with its additional batteries, was integrated into the guaranteed power supply cabinet and connected to the guaranteed loads group. This extended the autonomous operation time for the gas heating of the house.
